ASCENDO Immersive Audio Introduces Two Formidable New Subwoofers at CEDIA Expo

The28 SUB SQUARED PRO PASSIVE and The16 SUB PRO PASSIVE both offer incredible bass performance for their respective categories.

Houston, TX – (August 29, 2024) – ASCENDO Immersive Audio GmbH—known for its prowess in subwoofer design—announced today that it will introduce two new subwoofers at the CEDIA Expo, September 5–7, at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. In Sound Room 4 (Seymour-Screen Excellence) ASCENDO’s new show-stopping subwoofer—The28 SUB SQUARED PRO PASSIVE ($30,000 MSRP)—will be unveiled, featuring a radical design that redefines bass in home theaters. In ASCENDO’s Sound Room 3, the company will premiere the shallow The16 SUB PRO PASSIVE ($5,800 MSRP), which delivers perfect proportions of price, power, and performance creating superb bass.

The28 SQUARED Subwoofer’s Radical Design Redefines Bass for Home Theater

The inspiration for The28 SQUARED subwoofer came from a conversation ASCENDO co-managing partner Geoffrey Heinzel had with Trinnov CEO Arnaud Laborie about new ways to enhance bass performance in small rooms.

After extensive research and experimentation, ASCENDO developed a 28-inch composite sandwich cone from multiple layers of rohacell and advanced composite materials. With the cone area equivalent to a 32-inch subwoofer, The28 pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in low-frequency sound reproduction, delivering the highest output while occupying minimal space.

“This isn’t just another subwoofer; it’s a bold leap forward in sound engineering, created to deliver an unparalleled bass experience,” says Heinzel. “It effortlessly reproduces single-digit infrasonic frequencies, delivering bass you can feel in your bones. At the same time, it can soar well above the LFE cutoff frequency of 120Hz, serving as the ultimate kick woofer. We’ve harnessed an immense amount of power in the motor structure, giving it the muscle needed to accelerate the cone, motor mass, and coupled air mass with lightning speed. This results in a subwoofer that produces a perfect planar wave front, with high efficiency, ultra-high-power handling, and very low system Q. The shallow roll-off, combined with ultra-dynamic response, means that every sound—from the subtlest whisper to the most intense action scene—hits with native speed, attack, and impact that other woofers simply can’t match.”

The28 is a powerhouse of sound in an unexpected and sleek package. At 31.5 inches (80 cm) wide, 39.4 inches (100cm) high, and an overall depth of just 12 inches (30 cm) (with a custom option to build the enclosure as shallow as 8 inches (20cm)), it’s a perfect fit even in challenging installations.

The16 SUB PRO PASSIVE: The High-Power, High-Performance Subwoofer for Small to Medium Spaces

Building on the tremendous success of its 16-inch powered subwoofer, ASCENDO introduces the next evolution: The16 SUB PRO PASSIVE.

Designed for audiophiles and home theater enthusiasts who demand the best, this compact design delivers the ideal combination of power, precision, and size.

Every component of The16 has been meticulously chosen to deliver the best possible sound. The rohacell carbon sandwich cone is one of the most advanced materials available, providing exceptional strength and lightness. The surround is crafted from Santoprene, a high-excursion material that is lighter than rubber, offering higher SPL and superior control. “This allows for massive air movement despite the subwoofer’s compact size, ensuring that every note, every rumble, and every explosion is felt with incredible intensity,” says Heinzel.

Designed to integrate seamlessly into an existing system, The16 is an excellent audio upgrade. With a power handling capacity of 1500W RMS and even higher peak power, The16 is built to work seamlessly with the most powerful amplifiers.

By removing the electronics compartment and utilizing top-of-the-line neodymium magnets instead of traditional ceramic ones, The16 packs a massive punch from a compact package—just 18.5 inches wide x 18.5 inches high x 11.6 inches deep (47 x 47 x 29.5 cm). The compact form factor of The16 makes it ideal for tight spacing in bass arrays, whether you’re using Trinnov WaveForming, double bass arrays, single bass arrays, Dirac ART, or other bass-enhancing systems.
